The agent doesn't respect .cursorignore

I have a large project with many files irrelevant to the program. .cursorignore works correctly in chat mode, but in agent mode, I see that the entire codebase is being investigated, even though 99 percent of the files are unnecessary.

Is this only happening to me? If this is a general issue, is a fix planned?

The .cursorignore file does not stop the agent from seeing the existence of the files, but it should not read the contents of any unless you @ it specifically.

We are looking to add a .cursorban file, which would hide any files listed in it from the AI entirely, so it cannot see the files in the first place!

You’re wrong here: cursor agent may not respect .cursorignore in some cases

For example, create next two files:

.cursorignore

/*

example.ini

[data]
hello=world
foo=bar

Open folder with them in cursor and send next prompt Can you create new json file from exists ini's?

Agent will create new json without any problems

Also, the main concern with this issue is the search on ignored folders.
On large ignored subfolders, especially on mounted file systems, this can cause a significant amount of resource overuse.
