I had the same issue. I’m using a 4K resolution monitor, and after the upgrade, I experienced severe anti-aliasing problems and blurry text.
After trying multiple methods, I found that using the System Setup version fixed the issue.
This is the version I’m currently using, and I hope it helps you too.

Can you give us further info? Where is System setup? In Cursor or Windows? Thx
Cursor provides two installer versions: user setup and system setup, which are technically from VSCode.
You can obtain the correct download link from Cursor’s official API.
Here is the one I used:
https://cursor.com/api/download?platform=win32-x64&releaseTrack=stable
It returns:
{
"version": "1.2.1",
"commitSha": "031e7e0ff1e2eda9c1a0f5df67d44053b059c5df",
"downloadUrl": "https://downloads.cursor.com/production/031e7e0ff1e2eda9c1a0f5df67d44053b059c5df/win32/x64/system-setup/CursorSetup-x64-1.2.1.exe",
"rehUrl": "https://cursor.blob.core.windows.net/remote-releases/031e7e0ff1e2eda9c1a0f5df67d44053b059c5d0/vscode-reh-win32-x64.tar.gz"
}
Follow the downloadUrl field to download the system setup version. Hope this helps resolve your issue.
Doesnt work for me.
Screenshot from 1.2.1 (system setup)
Screenshot from VSC
you can clearly see that the font is blurry and not sharp in the cursor, and the brightness is still low against VSC ![]()
Its very frustrating.
I remembered that I upgraded to the latest version via the auto-update feature from version 0.51.2.
At the time, I was testing the older version for font clarity, it was clear. I clicked the automatic upgrade button in the lower left corner, and after the auto-update, the fonts remained sharp and clear. It seems that only system setup can automatically upgrade.
I’m not sure if this upgrade path is relevant to the issue, but I thought it might be worth mentioning.
I originally downloaded version 0.51.2 from here (note: this is an unofficial archive):

Hope this info helps.
I think this is issue is mostly caused due to a Cursor UI style related setting. I’m assuming they fiddled with their UI styles recently, and it’s affecting the entire editor rather than just their UI
Wont help, I always update via the bottom button.
The problem is with the developers, and the worst part is that they themselves don’t know and don’t even pay much attention to it. I have been slowly but surely looking elsewhere, I am a paying member and this is unacceptable to me.
In my case, the problem is not the color. I compared the RGB values of the two versions of the text. For the center of the letters, their colors are the same, but the text looks blurry.
According to other people’s feedback, I also tried to uncheck Cursor > Cmdk: Use Themed Diff Background, and switched multiple themes. I used Dark+.
I really don’t understand why this problem occurs and why it suddenly disappears. And I wasted a whole morning doing this because there is no alternative on the market that can completely replace the cursor. For now
Here’s what I think is happening:
Cursor will startup with LCD subpixel text rendering enabled, and then after 1-2s, it disables, with only grayscale AA (which is thinner/blurrier/dim).
The fix would be to make sure LCD subpixel text rendering stays enabled like Vscode.
Vscode (left) vs. Cursor (right):
My text is also doing this. It feels like the text is visibly darker as well.
Problem still persists even with the new update:

Problem will stay and live with us 4ever ;o)
It’s just sad, I’m actually considering switching back to VSCode once my plan ends.
How do you replace the internal integration of AI models (claude / gpt etc?)
VSC doesn’t have that right?
@linx3019 are you also on 1.0.0. Could you post your full Cursor version info?

Enabling this setting will make it much clearer, but this mode seems to have many bugs, such as the disappearance of the horizontal scroll bar…
