Today, I deleted the chat records and the data in Notepad myself

Something happened today that forced me to lose my chat records and Notepad records.

Here’s what happened: I had a project. During the chat, the window suddenly became unresponsive. After restarting, the window still couldn’t respond, and the chat area remained in a loading state.

I tried opening other projects, and everything was fine.

It should be that some data error has caused this problem. Therefore, in order to delete this incorrect data, I have no choice but to delete the folder where the project’s stored data is located. I can’t confirm exactly which data has led to this problem.

After doing this, everything returned to normal. However, I lost my chat records and Notepad records as a result.

The chat records aren’t really important, but the Notepad data is still quite crucial. It is saved in the state.vscdb file, and it’s really troublesome to back up and restore it.

As a loyal user, I am also a developer. Therefore, I’m not averse to the occasional instability of the program.

However, I hope that Cursor can provide a more user-friendly way for users to rescue their important data.

  2. all these ides need to never ‘delete’ – they need their own recycle system whereby nothing actually gets deleted but just moved to a .history project folder. and added to .ignore

Hey, I’m sorry you encountered this issue. However, I never recommend permanently deleting these files. Instead, make a backup, as you can retrieve any important information from them by digging into the database.

Yes, I made a backup, but it’s really troublesome to restore, so it’s as if I deleted it.

I hope that the data of the notepad and the history data can be migrated more easily.

For example, the notepad data is in a single file, and I can complete the migration just by copying and pasting it.
