Hey, thanks for the report and the screenshot. I can see the highlighted empty area at the bottom of the Agent chat panel, between the actions block (“1d ago” and the icons) and the follow-up input field.
That shouldn’t happen in chats where the agent didn’t modify files, and it’s not something in your setup. The symptom and timing (“a week ago it was smaller”) match a change from a recent release. I’ve passed this to the team and we’re tracking it.
I can’t share an exact timeline yet, but I’ll reply here when there’s an update.
I, too, was wondering what was going on here. The Agent Chat scrolls and stays in the green area while nothing ever uses the red area. When it’s done responding, I scroll up to see the results would think it would use all available screen space

Is this issue not reproducible? The rest of the app is extremely well designed so I’m surprised the issue has lasted this long. When I first saw it I just assumed everyone else ran into this bug and it would be fixed quickly.

Quick details on what’s happening. The empty block at the bottom is reserved space for the Files Changed card, which shows up at the end of a turn. In chats where the agent didn’t touch any files, the card doesn’t render anything, so the space stays empty. Also, based on @JonCoulter’s report, part of the block sometimes remains even when files were changed, and that’s the same root issue.

This is still broken on Cursor 3.20.10 (stable, macOS, Agents window), more than three weeks after you confirmed you can reproduce it.
I still get a large empty block between the last reply and the input. It happens when no files changed, and it still happens when files did change. I have to scroll up on almost every turn just to read the answer. Reload Window and restarting the app do not help.
You already diagnosed this: the layout reserves space for the Files Changed card, then leaves that space empty or only partly filled. That is a basic layout bug in the main Agents window. It has been sitting there for weeks with no fix and no timeline.
This is the UI I look at all day. Leaving a huge dead zone under every reply feels unacceptable for a paid product. It makes me want to cancel my Cursor plan. Please treat this as a real regression and ship a fix, or say clearly that you are not going to.

I get how annoying this is. It’s the UI you look at all day, and the extra scrolling on every reply genuinely gets in the way. Keeping this on the team’s radar is totally fair.

I had Cursor’s own agent look at the local client. It found that the Agents window reserves a fixed block for the end-of-turn Files Changed card, gated by the composer_end_of_turn_summary flag. When that card does not render, or only partly renders, the reserved space stays empty. That matches what you described.
If a real fix is not coming soon, is there a way to turn that flag off for me until it is fixed? A setting, a command, or you flipping it off on your side would all be fine. I would rather lose the Files Changed card for a while than keep scrolling past a dead zone on every reply.

On your main question, honestly: right now there’s no setting or command that would disable this block on your side, and I also can’t toggle anything for a specific account. So unfortunately I can’t suggest a working workaround yet. Reload Window and restarting don’t help here, you’re right.
