Unable to access Agent Home chats after hiding the "Home" section in the sidebar

Where does the bug appear (feature/product)?

Cursor IDE

Describe the Bug

In the Agent window, if a user manually hides the “Home” section from the left sidebar, starting any new Agent chat within the “Home” workspace becomes impossible. When attempting to start a new Home agent chat, the chat and the “Home” workspace section briefly flash in the left sidebar for a split second, but then immediately disappear and vanish from view, rendering the newly created chat completely inaccessible.

Steps to Reproduce

Open the Cursor Agent window/panel.
If the “Home” section is visible in the left sidebar of the Agent panel, manually hide or remove it (e.g., via right-click context menu or by clicking a hide/remove option on the Home section header).
Try to start a new Agent chat in the “Home” environment (for example, when no specific project workspace is open, or by initiating a home-scoped agent conversation).
Watch the left sidebar closely.
Notice that the new chat/Home environment briefly appears in the sidebar for a moment, and then immediately disappears/hides itself, leaving no way to click or access the active chat.

Expected Behavior

Starting a new Agent chat in the “Home” environment should automatically unhide and reveal the “Home” section in the sidebar so the user can immediately interact with the chat.
There should be a clear, discoverable option (such as a toggle or context menu item) to re-enable or unhide the “Home” section manually.
The newly created chat should remain visible and accessible in the sidebar instead of immediately disappearing.

Does this stop you from using Cursor

No - Cursor works, but with this issue

Hey, thanks for the detailed report with steps and the GIF, it really helps.

I can confirm the bug. After removing the Home section from the sidebar via Remove from Sidebar, the filter keeps hiding it, and for Home unlike regular workspace sections there’s no obvious way to bring it back. I’ve filed this internally and we’ll fix it. I can’t share an ETA yet.

A couple workarounds to unblock yourself:

  • Open the sidebar customization menu the settings icon at the top of the Agents panel, then toggle a source filter off and on like Automations. This usually triggers hidden sections to reappear.
  • Alternatively, open any workspace or folder so new chats are created outside the Home scope.

If neither option works, let me know and I’ll add it to the ticket.

the first workaround did not work, but maybe i didnt do it right, do you know how i could reset the settings to have it returned?

Hey, thanks for reaching out. This is the same bug as in that thread. It’s already reported internally, but there’s no fix timeline yet.

On the first workaround, I want to double-check the steps since it might not have fully applied:

  1. Open the sidebar customization menu. Click the settings icon gear at the top of the Agents panel.
  2. Find the source filter like Automations, turn it off, then turn it back on. This usually makes hidden sections show up again. You can toggle it a couple of times.

If that doesn’t help, the most reliable option right now is to open any folder or workspace. Then new chats get created outside the Home scope and stay visible in the sidebar.

Also, so I can look into your case more accurately, please share your Cursor version via Help > About and your OS. If none of the options work, let me know and I’ll add more details to the report.
