Unexpectedly High AI Usage Costs in Cursor?

Bug Report: Unexpectedly High AI Usage Costs

I’ve noticed an issue with AI usage costs in Cursor. Every AI request consistently costs between 2-3 credits, using gemini 2.5, sonnet 3.7 thinking, gpt 4.1.

Issue Details:

  • All AI requests cost a minimum of 2 credits, with some reaching 3 credits
  • No requests have cost less than 2 credits as far as I can see.

This pricing seems unusually high and inconsistent with expected costs. Is this intended behavior or a potential bug in the credit calculation system?

Edit: I’ve also tried using Gemini 2.5 without adding any context, and it still charges 2 credits per request.

Did you enable Large context in the settings?

Hey, the Claude Sonnet Thinking model costs 2 requests. If you have the large context option enabled, it also costs 2 requests. So, if you use the Sonnet model with this option, it will cost a total of 3 requests.

I understand the issue now. Thanks everyone for your help. At one point it only cost 1 credit with Gemini, so perhaps the system just needs some time to update or refresh the usage data.
