Update to Teams and Auto Pricing

I’m using Windsurf for a couple months, it has more features (plan mode, memories etc.) and flat pricing (15$/500 credits). One Sonnet 3.7 Thinking request = 1.25 credits. Additional 250 credits for 10$ (and it’s not burn out with end of cycle). DM me for referral link and we both get additional 250 credits.

OK I think I misunderstood one key element of the Pro pricing:

  • Unlimited Tab Completion → What is the mistery sauce that allows Cursor to provide quality for unlimited requests !
  • + additional 20USD of credit for usage based LLM

Is that correct ?

Yes that is correct. You get unlimited tab completions and they often give you more than the $20 of credit each month, it’s just $20 minimum.

As for the free unlimited requests with Auto model, there has been a recent change (again) and it will no longer be unlimited after a renewal past 9/15.

So they are saying we will be grandfathered into unlimited auto for a year as long as you sign up for an annual membership before 9/15. Not bad for $16/mo in my opinion, plus you get the $20+ credit/mo and access to Cursor’s tab completions.

Hm ok, they better keep their word then, because I’ll have no choice but paying for the yearly subscription then.
Thanks for clarifying !

I would email [email protected] just to verify what I said about unlimited. Their post seems clear, but can’t hurt to get some confirmation if you have any doubts.

I left cursor 2 months ago, and am no longer advising my institute about buying it. I went to copilot and honestly, there is a degree of efficiency that I miss, and still I do buy some more paid requests, but all in all it’s a balanced choice and I will not go back.

Windsurf doesn’t offer 3.7 it seems and 4 ix 2x. So you can get 250 sonnet 4 requests for same price as Cursor’s monthly membership, which gets you ~$20+ in requests, which definitely wont last 250 sonnet 4 requests. So yea on that alone (not comparing tab completion and the overall effectiveness), Windsurf is probably a better deal. I wonder how their free unlimited model (SWE-1) compares to Cursor’s Auto.

But after like 15 mins, I still could not get my c# project to work with Windsurf. Cursor has their own c# language server extension, so maybe the normal ones don’t work with these vs code forks. Regardless, the fact that it took no time to get setup with Cursor with the same project says something.

If you think they are going to honor unlimited rates, you are insane. None of the economics changes with them going unlimited auto. They will make it so limited and slow that you will barely be able to use it. Then, they will push you to upgrade.

Crazy part is that I was trying to use their cheaper models like Gemini 2.5 flash but they haven’t even fixed it for over a month now. Just use VSCode plus OpenRouter. Use the free Deepseek model and pay for the costs when you need more. It will likely save you money long term.

I am expecting that. It’s only $16.mo. Thats why I am using paid models more anyways. We’ll see when it’s time to jump ship, but more likely competitors are all going in the same direction, so really there may not be another ship to get on. I’ve tried others, and Cursor, for me at least, is by far the better product in terms of tab completions and access to models.

I really don’t need to save $16 a month. I just need to find the best tool that works. Paying for models should become the norm, but having access to cheap/free models in Cursor for less complex tasks is nice plus.

Are the free models in OpenRouter not sufficient? I find the free deepseek works very well. GLM 4.5 is also pretty good.

You must be joking how could they possibly control that?
It depends on the user’s expertise, their level of knowledge in programming, and more.

As far as I’ve checked, it’s completely free right now!
Check the actual billing, not this table that’s useless for anything.

They may be, but I still need Cursor Pro for tab completion and I also can use the monthly usage for paid models.

This make me unistall cursor, i have already 1 month of using windsurf and one week of using kiro and am verry satisfied. Windsurf has gpt 5 medium thinking and low thinkg free. They also have decent Pricing as cursor had before.

This would be a big brain move if this was a play to make everyone lock in a yearly subscription and raise money lol

I do think that all the pricing fiascos started to happen after the disastrous launch of 1 year free student plans. I think that pushed the “free” usage to unsustainable levels.

“We know we made pricing confusing last time, so this time we thought we’d double down. Your ambiguity is our success after all”.

It’s honestly crazy how fast I’ve gone from the biggest Cursor fan to cancelling my Ultra subscription and more than $1k/pm in usage fees because these clowns can’t get their act together.

Windsurf here I come

If you want cursor but practically unlimited, download VSCode + supermaven extension (which is the exact tab model cursor uses), and buy Claude code for $20/mo.

Claude code has near-unlimited usage (unless you’re vibe coder final boss  ), and supermaven has unlimited tab completions. There’s no point of paying for Cursor anymore, and no one can change my mind.

okay, when will auto start showing the model it uses each time?

Honestly, it is better to invest in local LLM now, at least these price hikes won’t bother us
