I’m a paying Cursor customer. My vote is for less AI features and instead a regular update to a newer VS Code version. If you can’t access all the tools you need in your IDE, then Cursor loses its major differentiator with its competitors.
Pretty big bummer that Cursor is still not on v1.100. I’ve stopped paying for Cursor and now simply use VS Code + Claude Code because I need to be able to use the TypeScript (Native Preview) extension.
Y’all are leaving money on the table.
The Cursor was just updated again, many unnecessary and unrequested features were added, but it’s still based on a VS Code version earlier than 1.100. I’ve been waiting for 1.100 for a long time, it’s very important. Why don’t the developers release what users actually ask for?
We are working on VSCode updates as well in parallel. Once it is tested and ready for release we will announce it.
A lot of the latest features are feedback from users in the Forum and on other platforms, so we are listening.

2.1.0 is out. Vscode is 1.105.1
For us it’s only available on nightly for now. The vscode.lm.registerTool extension API is not implemented, is this intentional? I recall it worked well before Cursor version 2.0 came out, although i could be wrong. I will probably have to open a separate thread for this issue since it’s quite specific.
Now I need to work with new extension requiring vscode 1.106.0, when will Cursor upgrade to 1.106.0?
I need it updated to 1.108 for Julia extension.

Oh. It doesn’ t appear in custom dialog, it only appears in native dialog.

Pretty disappointing/appalling considering they’ve also said there aren’t any “near-term” plans to do anything about this.
As far as I can tell, it’s only the Extension API that’s on v1.105.1. The rest of it is likely even older considering OKLCH and OKLAB color previews, a feature (amongst many others) added in VSCode v1.101 which released in May 2025, still isn’t in Cursor. Some lag is expected, but that is coming up on a 12 month gap.
If there’s no interest in maintaining the code editor/IDE aspect of the product then it is essentially just an egregiously overweight, half-baked, OpenCode/Claude Code/Codex/etc. competitor. Some of which have VSCode extensions too.
I think I understand that the focus is more on the Agent window. Understandable. But if you don’t want to maintain the VSCode fork, can I suggest releasing a VSCode extension that us developers can use? I still very much prefer to interact with my code and review bits than to simply open an Agent window and let it do whatever while I have only a chat open. Maybe people like this are becoming the minority…
+1 on upgrading the VS Code Extension API base.
Cursor is currently on VS Code Extension API 1.105.1, while upstream VS Code has already reached 1.125.0 — roughly 20 minor releases behind. Because of this gap, many excellent VS Code extensions either fail to install (due to engines.vscode version checks) or don’t work properly after installation.
This is one of the main reasons I can’t fully switch my daily workflow to Cursor, even though I prefer its AI features. Would love to see the team prioritize a rebase to a newer VS Code base, or at least share a rough timeline for when the next upgrade is planned.
Happy to share specific extension names if that would help with prioritization.
I second this. It would nice to have a VS Code extension for the reasons you stated. I am not ready to go full auto/“vibe”-mode on such a large codebase.
