VS Code and Screen Tearing

I’ve turned every GPU-related thing off on my computer (I made the horrible mistake of buying an Nvidia card for my Linux graphics), but the screen just tears like crazy. Sometimes my monitor looks like a strobe light.

  • Manjarno linxu, latest updates
  • Drivers are all updated
  • All GPU-related VS Code is turned off
  • Comes and goes… could it be interacting with other windows?

It’d be great if you could take some photos of it. Does the ‘strobe light’ effect appear across your entire screen and all windows, or just in cursor?

I’m trying to get good video.

It used to be these really quick flickers — classic Nvidia driver problems. Then I turned all the GPU options off in VS Code and even did some KDE things to reduce flicker.

Now, it’s the long, awkward pauses. The screen can go blank for one quarter to even 1.5 seconds. It seems to happen during peak usage times. Normally 4-7 am EST isn’t bad, but Sunday 3/23 afternoon around 2:00 was horrible.
