We configured the setting "cursor.chat.defaultNoContext": true on .vscode/settings.json to prevent Cursor from automatically adding the current file to the chat. (got it from this forum post: .cursorignore not being used - #7 by rubycon) Today I noticed that setting is not valid any longer: [image] Asked Chat how to prevent files from being automatically added to it, it said to use "ai.contextStrategy": "none" on .cursor/settings.json. I created that file and used Tab to autocomplete other options there too: { "ai.contextStrategy": "none", "ai.chat.defaultNoContext": true, "cursor.chat.defaultNoContext": true } No combination of that works, files are still automatically added to Chat (restarted Cursor multiple times). The documentation (Cursor - Build Software Faster) is also not helpful: it refers to Default to no context under Cursor Settings > Features > Chat, which doesn’t exist any longer. hey! i’ll look into this and get back to you!

What’s the status of this, please? This is a very concerning issue and as subscribers of Cursor we expect a quicker response.

yes, this is the answer: [image] Cursor can see my API Key but how? Discussion Hey, It’s possible the Composer can see the file if you have it open, either as the focused or a background tab. If it is in your .gitignore, you can be sure it is not in you codebase index, and is therefore not stored or referenced anywhere off your device. I believe we are looking at some improvements around this to avoid ignored files being added as context in the chat and composer. you can also check the docs on this: [image] Cursor – Ignore Files Learn how to use .cursorignore and .cursorindexingignore to control file access and indexing in Cursor

Hey, @ericzakariasson. Thanks for getting back to us. I understand the indexing of the codebase and the ignore files, but: You didn’t address the point about stale docs, stating an option that prevents files/tabs being sent to Chat/Composer, and that this option silently got removed; Are we expected to accept sensitive information being sent over the wire if we open Chat and/or Composer? This is a critical consideration for us to keep using Cursor. Thank you, Rafael

Also, see this: “Cursor Tab… will run on any open file unless you have cpp disabled on the file’s language.” [image] .cursorignore not being used Discussion We do not index files that are gitignored or cursorignored. This is respected on the next re-index (which happens about every 10 minutes or upon restarting the editor) Cursor Tab is separate from indexing and will run on any open file unless you have cpp disabled on the file’s language. cursorignore was primarily build for the indexing feature for codebase-chat. I don’t want to index lots of large/unneeded files (like my node modules or generated protobuf files) in a large codebase. But, I’d s… We set Cursor for our org considering the ability to not send tabs/files to chat (and Composer) automatically.

good catch, we’ll update the docs! many things changing, so we’ve fallen behind with that. i’ll make sure to keep them more up to date! i’d say yes to that. ignore files like .cursorrules only prevent the file content from being indexed. chat & composer has access to all files in their context. we’re rolling out a feature that respects ignore files when building the context. you can read more here and here hope this clears up some things. happy to dig deeper if there’s anything that’s unclear or that i’ve missed
