What the difference if I use max mode in grok 4.5 or composer 2.5 or something else? Context window not changed, but seems cost more token?

Hey there!
It shouldn’t cost you any more tokens. The 20% upcharge on Max Mode requests was recently removed for users on usage-based plans.
Max Mode doesn’t make a lot of sense for users on usage-based plans (it used to be the only way to signal you wanted a larger context window), and has become quite a confusing vestigial part of Cursor. We’re removing it very soon.

When Max Mode was first introduced, it was the only way to signal that you wanted a larger context window. Now that there’s another way to do this, Max Mode is no longer needed.
This change has no impact on pricing (the 20% upcharge for Max Mode was removed a few months ago for users on usage-based plans) and won’t affect the quality of your results. It’s just…
