We add new frontier models in a centralized way after an internal review, so we don’t track individual add model X requests as separate tickets. I can’t share an exact date for Sakana Fugu Ultra, but we’ve noted the request.
If you want to try the model right now and the provider offers an OpenAI-compatible or OpenRouter endpoint, you can connect it yourself via BYOK using a custom base URL. Go to Cursor Settings > Models, then enter your API key and the custom endpoint. This also covers the request for API key access from @NorseGaud.
Hey @parkersmith. No, unfortunately the custom base URL via BYOK option currently only works in the IDE.
Cloud agents and automations run on Cursor infrastructure and use models from the central catalog, so a custom model you connect yourself isn’t available there yet. You can only pick models we’ve added centrally.
There’s already a feature request for BYOK in cloud agents, you can add your vote here: Support for BYOK in Cloud Agents. There’s no timeline for this yet.
Sakana Fugu is not available in Europe, at least without VPN. They are saying: „Not yet available in the EU/EEA, the UK, and Switzerland while we work toward compliance with GDPR and EU-specific regulations.“
I don’t think they can just simply rollout it in Cursor. It does not (yet) comply to the DSGVO standards in Europe. That might be quite a hurdle. For example OpenAI complies through an Irish subsidiary.
