Why are Claude 3.5/3.7 slow requests so extra-slow now?

Cursor is turning us into junkies  we need our fix!!!

We really need an update from them ā€œassuranceā€ just like relationship

I signed up just to say that this has been happening to me for the last 3-4 days now. Before, slow mode would take a few seconds to start responding, now I see ā€œSlow request, switch to auto for a much faster responseā€ and it will stay stuck on this generic message for 1-2 minutes before even starts. Literally 1-2 minutes. It has made Cursor totally unusable, and so I’ve gone back to Copilot. I will not be continuing my subscription with Cursor beyond the end of the month if this isn’t resolved in the next few days. Similarly, the lack of communication plus the fact this clearly affects numerous others destroys my faith in this product and company.

Here’s my request ID:

I tried to ask a very simple question, and I have waited for more than 2 minutes for the answer.

If you observe the image, the logs seems executed sucessfully but that request does not give me a response. I have been trying to repeat the send then stop until I get the response.

This slow request issue should be due to the server crashing. For cursor, this problem is as serious as being unable to make a payment. It is extremely fatal and terrifying, and it is a core issue.

I dont get it about server crashing, is this related on the server of the model or the server of cursor?

I think Claude’s slow response is probably due to the server crashing. You can start working with Gemini 2.5 for now. Also, I saw someone say that the newly released models O3 and O4 are more powerful than Claude and Gemini. You can give them a try first. For Claude, we can only wait for the official fix. It might take a few days or even a few weeks, bro.

o3 is a good option, but it is so sad it cost me a 0.30 usd per request. Unfortunately, I am not a rich person

Same here. I also prefer using Claude and Gemini for slow requests. Each request is really too costly. Have you tried O4-mini? I haven’t used it yet. I don’t know how it compares to the other two. Is it better at writing code or better at understanding long contexts to provide ideas?

o4 mini, it’s good so far, but you should only give him a one task per request  for example:

  • Fix this A file
  • After you fix then Fix B

The o4 mini only execute the first task. and it is also a slow

I’ve only found good success with Claude 3.7 for my vibe coding so far.

Not going to lie, I am a little disappointed in the amount of time it’s taking for a status update as well, but hoping it has something to do with it being Easter weekend. I think it’s safe to say that many people will be cancelling their subscriptions if it’s not fixed. It made it unusable for a lot of us.

I reached out to the developers on Twitter as well to ask for more help.

Lol, I love that it used @moshOntong-IT 's ā€œjust like relationshipā€ :rofl::raising_hands:

Thanks for inviting.
I am getting same problem. Yesterday, and all days before Claude 3.7 sonnet was working just fine for me. Slow request has been 5-10 seconds slower then fast requests, but they were usable in general. Today I have noticed that requests started to take 2 minutes.

Yeah it’s been about 3 days or more for us now. I haven’t been able to work on my projects, it’s not the same - and I don’t want to pay per use on it when I already pay for premium.

I was contacted by Cursor support via email. They told me that waiting time of up to 5 minutes is a normal practice ā€œFor users who frequently use slow requestsā€ as they told me.
Attached screenshot of email below.

That’s what I was told in support as well, but not what @danperks said. Dan’s answer lines up with how it has actually worked in the past. If this is the case then we are all out of here I guess, but I will wait to hear it from a staff member that’s not a support email.

Completely agree with you. I am ok with waiting extra 10-20 secs, that’s not a problem for me, but 2-5 minutes feels like too much.
As of now, is there any similar tools such as Cursor that we can use? I am mobile developer btw
