Hey, this error usually means your Anthropic API key is misconfigured.

Please check:

  • The key is valid and your Anthropic account has credits
  • There are no extra spaces when pasting it into Cursor settings
  • Generate a new key in the Anthropic console
  • Verify the key works in other apps/tools

If it still shows “unauthorized” with a new key, it may be a billing or permission issue on your Anthropic account.

To be clear, I have no problem using it in other LLM tools, such as Claude code, and I have tried regenerating but it has no effect. There are also no spaces in the key

Usually this error occurs if you’ve overridden the base URL for the OpenAI API key, but from your screenshot it looks like it’s not enabled. Also, let me know if you’re using any MCP servers. Try disabling them and test again.

We’re still investigating this issue internally. Since you’ve confirmed the API key works in other tools and you’ve tried all the standard troubleshooting steps, this appears to be a Cursor‑specific issue.

Could you share a request ID? To start, you’ll need to turn off Privacy Mode.
