Everytime you open cursor it tries to make you use agent mode. I just want to quickly edit a few lines of code myself. I just cancelled my claude code max plan after a year of having it. The new update is backward. Why did they decide to force users into using a new feature and not make it easy for them to back out. The reason I used claude code was because it was a perfect merge between vscode and claude code. Now it takes like 4 interactions to get to where I want to be every time I open the app. [image]

Hey there. This is configurable. [image] Cursor starting in agent mode instead of editor mode Bug Reports Hey, thanks for the report. This started with the latest update. On startup, Cursor now opens in the Agents Window. To make the Editor Window the default again: Cursor Settings > Agents > turn off Open Agents Window on startup. If you don’t see that toggle or it doesn’t work after you turn it off, you can switch back using Ctrl+Shift+N, or Command Palette Ctrl+Shift+P > Open Editor Window. Let me know if that helped. If the toggle is missing or doesn’t save, tell me and we can look into it se…

For anyone looking for this solution, looks like the toggle is no longer in Settings > Agents as of 7/23/2026. However, this toggle in Settings > General seems to work. I had it on ‘default’ and that always resulted in the app opening in the Agents Window. I flipped it to ‘Last Used Window’ and now it will open in the IDE if that’s the last window used, which for me, usually is. [image]
