Why does it take so long for VS Code extensions to show up in Cursor

It is frustrating, and it’s causing me to abandon Cursor when I see that we are so behind with the extensions, especially Codex extension which is over a point behind, 0.4.17 v 0.5.19, and Claude extension which is 2.01 in Cursor, 2.08 in VS Code points behind. It doesn’t make you want to use Cursor at all. I don’t think it’s necessarily Cursor’s fault, but it is affecting Cursor’s usage. I could use the terminal version of those two applications, which always has the latest version, but then I miss a lot of the functionality that the tools offer, which I use in conjunction with Cursor’s own agent input.

Same thing happens on mine with the Claude VSC extension. I’ve found if you just open the “Extensions” tab it will make the Claude extension icon appear right away at the top right.

That doesn’t work. :frowning:

We use OpenVSX as our upstream extension registry, and we rely on the third-party publishers to submit updates to OpenVSX whenever they have a new version available.

After an extension is published or updated on OpenVSX, it should be visible within Cursor in a couple hours in most circumstances.

Thanks. I get it. Just venting my frustrations. The vendors should respect you more and know they’re upsetting customers.
