Why does voice dictation not enter text in chat?

I face the same issue in the latest version. Can someone please confirm?

Hey @shahjigar, thanks for the report, and sorry this one is still biting.

The original issue in this thread was fixed a while back, but there is a separate known issue where the Hold to Talk shortcut can start dictation for a different chat than the one you have focused. The recording works, but the text can land in another chat, a side chat, or the New Agent draft instead of the input you are looking at. The team has a fix in the works.

Two quick questions to confirm you are hitting the same thing:

  1. When you use the shortcut, does the recording waveform appear in the chat input you are dictating into, somewhere else, or not at all?
  2. After you stop, does the text show up anywhere else, for example another chat, a side chat, or the New Agent draft?

In the meantime, clicking the mic button in the input itself should work reliably.

  1. When I use the shortcut (^M), the recording waveform appears in the chat.
  2. After I stop, the text does not appear in the same chat or anywhere else (side chat, another agent chat, etc.)

Clicking the mic button also has the same issue. I can click the mic, the waveform appears, but no text gets entered in the chat.

Before I go further, can you confirm which plan your account is on? Voice dictation transcription is currently available on the Pro plan and above, and based on what you’re describing it looks like this may be a Free plan account.

Hey, that’s correct. The account I was using was on the free plan. I didn’t know that voice dictation was available only in the Pro plan and above. I didn’t see it documented. Cursor should remove the microphone in the free plan to avoid confusion. Anyway, I’ll try it on the paid plan. Thanks
