Why is it billed based on the number of tokens?

I purchased the membership specifically to use the API without restrictions. If Cursor charges for the max mode models based on the smaller token count, why would I choose it when I could opt for Claude’s $200/month plan? The max mode is too expensive; just three or four questions cost as much as $80. I won’t renew next month. If Cursor were to offer a $200/month plan that allows unlimited use of the max model, I would reconsider renewing.

I also found that using Plan Mode on the Business Plan was way too expensive. I’m at over 250 dollars this month already where as my usual usage was at most 100 dollars.

It would have been nice if Cursor had put up a warning regarding this but now I am transitioning to using a combination of GitHub Copilot, Warp and Claude Code which can basically do everything that I had Cursor doing. Still learning Warp though.

There are tutorials out there on how to make your own Plan Mode in Copilot by editing copilot-instructions.md. It might not be exactly the same but for me considering the costs of using Cursor, I won’t say I’m going to abandon it but am going to save it for when I’m really pressed for time.
