Window Not Responding

Describe the Bug

This seems to be more of an issue with a specific project than with Cursor specifically. Cursor was functioning perfectly and suddenly stopped responding. Got the Window Not Responding warning. Closed and quit. Restarted. Condition still persists. Opened a different project and Cursor is working as expected.

Steps to Reproduce

This condition only persists with a particular project. Did I reach some kind of limit with this particular project? It doesn’t seem that heavy.

Expected Behavior

Expected continued functionality.

Does this stop you from using Cursor

Yes - Cursor is unusable

The error happens because your chat has grown to the point where the app cant handle it. Backup your chat and start a new chat and it will go away.

… thx, @jokerfool… I guess my chat had grown without my really paying much attention to it! Is there a Backup Chat command?

You can try exporting your chat history using this extension:

… thx!

i had the same issue, and i did something very simple so Cursor worked again for me normally.
first it’s due to chat history
what to do ? → duplicate the project folder and try to open it with cursor…done !

Same problem here. How do you delete the chat history or duplicate the project folder and open it in cursor if you can’t open cursor? Is there a file I can get into and delete?

Hey, you can simply rename your folder directly from the file system without needing to open Cursor, and you can also move the folder to another location on your drive.

Additionally, you can delete the history by navigating to this path and sorting the folders by modification date. Choose the one that was used recently, you can delete it or save a backup just in case:

Windows: %APPDATA%\Cursor\User\workspaceStorage
macOS: ~/Library/Application Support/Cursor/User/workspaceStorage
Linux: ~/.config/Cursor/User/workspaceStorage

Love you baby!

Hi! I have a very important chat history that seems to be too large and is causing Cursor to freeze.
I read the suggestion to delete or back up the folder under workspaceStorage, and I already backed it up.
My question is: is there any way to reopen or recover that specific chat later without crashing Cursor again?
Can I maybe extract or re-import that conversation somehow, or is it just lost because of the size?
Thanks in advance!

Can you pin it? After nearly 100 workspace, I can’t open the app normally
