You're right, You're absolutely right, I apologize

sometimes it just goes crazy, you tell the AI what to do and 2 chat after he forgot and massing up everything. I think the AI got amnesia
i don’t want to be right, but i am re-doing this part for the 4 time, i asked him not to touch my styles and layout…what does he do. mass everything up and saying - “I apologize, you right”…etc. it was much better before. Now the AI like to remove comments you put, hahaha…just fix my code!
I am going to start my 5th time, YAY

I often find this behaviour happens more the longer the chat history.

Try moving your question into a new chat window, and specify something like:

IMPORTANT: Do not change any of my existing styles and layout aside from what is strictly necessary to achieve this new change.

When I asked what would be better for the AI to be familiar with my project, it recommended keeping it in one chat. I have a warning similar in the .cursor,

For a complex project, one long continuous chat is generally better because:

  • I can maintain context of:
  • Previous code changes
  • Your project structure
  • Specific requirements
  • Previous issues we’ve solved
  • I can remember:
  • Your coding style preferences
  • Project configurations
  • Custom components and utilities
  • Previous decisions we made
  • It helps avoid:
  • Repeating explanations
  • Conflicting suggestions
  • Asking for the same files again

In a world where an AI has an infinite context window and perfect memory, that’s true.

But we’re not there yet. So until then, I’d recommend summarising pertinent information from your existing chat, then using this as context for a fresh chat interaction.
