2.0 Slow and crashing constantly

Where does the bug appear (feature/product)?

Cursor IDE

Describe the Bug

I updated to 2.0 today and it’s SUPER slow and appears to crash and it restarts on its own. So far, at least 10 times in 3 hours.

I’m going to download a previous version until this is fixed. I really like cursor and thought the new version was going to be better but the reality, it’s not at this time.

Version: 2.0.43 (user setup)

Steps to Reproduce

Just give it a prompt: the AI takes 4 times longer to do what it normally does.

Expected Behavior

Work faster and not constantly crash.

For AI issues: which model did you use?

Auto

Additional Information

In the past, I could add another prompt or even work on a file (editing one manually). Now, when AI is doing it’s thing: the entire IDE is unresponsive. Which means I can’t do ANYTHING while AI is running. Bummer because I typically let it work while I work in unison.

As of reporting this, I have tried sending the same prompt for the 4th time and cursor can’t seem to finish anything now. Total hard stop.

Does this stop you from using Cursor

Yes - Cursor is unusable

Hey, thanks for the report. We’re seeing similar Agent tab freezes on macOS and Windows in recent versions. A few things to try:

Check your settings.json:

  • Open Command Palette (Ctrl+Shift+P) → Preferences: Open User Settings (JSON)
  • Look for "workbench.editor.showTabs": "single"
  • If it’s there, change it to “multiple" or remove it entirely

Test in Safe Mode:

  • Run cursor --disable-extensions from terminal to launch without extensions

Also helpful:

  • Clear chat history if you have long conversations stored
  • Check Task Manager when the freeze happens: what’s the memory usage?
  • Does this happen across all your projects or just specific ones?

Let me know if any of these help.

I have experienced multiple crashes since upgrading to latest cursor2.0. The tool is getting slower and buggier with each release! Very concerned and starting to actively look at alternatives. I will write my own bug reports I collected and documented soon. There are SO many! PS. Not Hating on y’all. Just super concerned.

I am having similar issues - its crashing multiple times. It often happens when I go to click on a file being worked on. It just fails and then it starts to work again 0
