hi @QTom did you already completely shut down Cursor and then open a single project? You do not seem to be in a project from what I see in your screenshot.
It may help with the display. I use for long time vertical bar and it is still available.
Please check if View > Appearance > Primary Side Bar is enabled. (it can be set left or right)

Yes in Agents view the Sidebar on left is occupied with Agents list.
From the screenshot the activity bar appears to be showing and vertical.
The remaining issue may be only the position left/right in Agents list?

Yes understandable, the limitation may for the moment be in Agents view but I will let the team know about it.
Alternative is to use Editor view and use Agent chat in Editor instead of pane.
