I gave 3.7 max three files and asked it a few questions in a single prompt, and I instantly got :
“User API Key Rate limit exceeded”
I was charged $0.14 for this, despite not receiving any output whatsoever.
I see that Anthropic reports Claude 3.7 as having “20,000 input tokens per minute” as an API rate limit. Is Cursor just spamming the entire input tokens I give it to Anthropic in a single request?
It would make more sense if Cursor either warned me I’m sending too many tokens to Anthropic or did something else.
I thought 3.7 max had 200,000 token limit? This is not great I can’t even use it
Sonnet 3.7 Max works with your API key, which will be tied to your tier, or you can use usage-based pricing: Cursor – Plans & Usage
If you use your API key from Anthropic, you’ll be tied to whatever your tier is, which sounds like Tier 1; you can’t use it because the limit is 20k context per minute; the minute you try to send more than that, Anthropic will block it. Even Tier 2 is only 40k. Tier 4 is the only option to use full context, which takes $400 spent or added to your account. The link to Anthropics Tiers is below.
Okay I think what screwed me up here is that 3.7 Max was not an option until I turned on Anthropic’s API and added an API key, quit the app, then re-opened it.
I’ve had a Cursor Pro account and its had Usage based pricing turned on for ages.
But 3.7 Max wasn’t an option until I added the Anthropic API key. Now that I’ve turned it off and removed the API key it seems like I’m using Cursor’s usage pricing
