500 request for the Cursor

The cursor has become practically unusable with the recent updates. 500 requests on a Pro account are far too few — they run out quickly, and you’re left frustrated for the rest of the month. Perhaps the Cursor developers should consider increasing the limit to at least 3,000–5,000 requests. $20 might not seem like much to you, but for people in many countries around the world, that’s a significant amount.

Hi, it might be good to review how you use AI models and how you prompt.

Example, for me 500 requests last almost a month, and I use them daily a lot.

For effective usage you can:

  • Use free models for asking simple questions and basic research, this will not consume fast requests, see the Documentation for Models (expand the list there)
  • Research how to better prompt so you do not unnecessarily consume fast requests.
  • Prepare tasks well and write them in markdown files that you can give to AI for processing instead of asking every single step separately. (See in the forum RIPER5 or Plan vs. Act for different approaches how to do this.
  • Use Cursor Rules to guide AI what to do and what to avoid. This gives the AI information you dont have to repeat in your prompts.

Note that if your prompts are not effective, you would use up after fast requests also more and more slow requests which queues them further back for fairness to all users.

I understand cost might be an issue, in case this is for work, its recommended to include such cost in your estimates and use usage based pricing after the 500 fast requests are used up, to enable you to work effectively without losing time.

Hey, unfortunately, unlike tech giants and large corporations, we cannot provide unlimited free requests. This is economically unfeasible for a company of our size. Our current pricing policy is carefully calculated and allows us to:

  • Ensure reliable server infrastructure
  • Maintain the quality of services provided
  • Invest in the development of new features

Maintaining existing rates is essential for our financial stability and the continued development of the product.

The speed and quality that Cursor offers is impressive, but what happens after hitting the limit is simply shameful.
