Feature request for product/service
Cursor IDE
Describe the request
I’d like to be able to create a “project” or “group” for my chats, making them easier to find and organize.
Hey, thanks for the feature request.
This isn’t the first request about organizing chats. There’s a similar thread about folders for agent chats. The navigation issue with a growing chat list is definitely real.
There’s also a related request about sorting by last updated. That’s also about making it easier to find the right chats.
The team is aware of these requests. If you have any specific use cases or details on how you’d like grouping to work (tags, folders, projects), feel free to add them to the thread. It’ll help us as we think through the feature.
Not sure how best to solve this, but I’m feeling this pain. Most of my feature builds require several chats for context management, and I’m handling maybe 3-4 per project at any one time - so 10-20 chats per repo that I’m actively working on. I’m leaving and coming back to these over the days and weeks and it’s always hard to get situated and figure out which chats are relevant to what I want to do. This is exasperated by the need to remember to manually name each chat with a task Id to easily identify them. I’d love it if the agent intelligently suggested chat names based on ongoing convos - not just the initial chat.
Hey @Alex_Chapman, good addition. Having 10 to 20 active chats per repo is really a lot, and the idea of automatically suggesting names based on the full conversation context, not just the first message, makes sense.
The team is aware of the request. Similar discussions about folders and sorting were already mentioned in the thread. Your case adds useful detail. It is not only about grouping, but also the pain of manually naming a large number of chats.
If you have more details on how you imagine auto naming working, like when in the chat it should suggest a name, or whether it should automatically rename when the topic changes, feel free to add that to the thread. It will help when we work on the feature.
This is something I have been wanting as well. At my company we have alternating work cycles between scrum (planned roadmap work) and kanban (bug tickets, ad hoc requests). I am frequently alternating between these streams of work, as well as opportunistic work like dbt project enhancements, upgrades, and management. When I have multiple chats open working with a bunch of agents, it gets tedious to navigate through the windows. At any given time, I have 4-5 agents running. A couple are working through kanban bugs, a couple are working through planned roadmap work like new feature builds, and a couple may be a back and forth refinement of a repo restructure following a “medallion architecture” or noodling on breaking out JSON objects into reusable data models. If I could group work into those buckests, it would save me a lot of time trying to hunt through chat history.
Hi cursor team!
can you please give an estimation of ETA for this feature? it’s hard to work without it…
Cursor IDE
Able to organize chats by either Linear Tickets, or PR you’re woking on, or maybe even create your own sections.
Right now I am working on multiple PRs at the same time, it’s hard for me to determine which chats correspond to which PR/tickets so i lose some context there.
If it’s possible as well for the Cursor ML to give more weight to the chats in the same orgainzation so it will know better what to do.
How about you can either group it by Linear/Jira ticket, or maybe even PR or create your own “folder” for each chats you want to organize.
I’m wondering if cursor able to give higher weights to chats in the same group so it’s easier to reference one in the other.
I’m really starting to feel the pain of the flat chat list.
As I use Cursor more, I end up with separate chats for different features, bugs, planning threads, experiments, and follow-up work. After a while, it gets hard to find the right chat again or keep related conversations together.
I’d love some lightweight way to organize chats. Folders, labels, projects, pinned groups, or really any way to group related chats would be helpful. It doesn’t need to be complicated, but the one long flat list is starting to feel pretty limiting.
I was about to write up a feature request for this, but I’ll just add to this one. I’m winding up with a fair number of (cloud) agents that are beginning to require another level of organization. I’ve been pinning chats, but then I wind up with like… a lot of pinned chats, and I’m losing track of them. An extra structure would be very nice. Ideally, there’s just another level of hierarchy that I can create arbitrarily and drag and drop chats between, expanding and closing that hierarchy, etc.
