He is very cheap, even 1/4 of a quick request, and can be used as a small model.
Google’s model has excellent context capabilities. I once sent it a 5,000-line code file and asked it to make a copy for me, then add a line of numbers at the bottom. It replicated everything perfectly without a single error.
+1 yup must be very good in cursor
This model is now available, enjoy! You can enable it via Settings > Models.
Is it a thinking or non-thinking model?
Gemini 2.5 Flash Preview is a thinking model.
We’ve hit a rate limit with gemini-openai. Please switch to the ‘auto-select’ model, another model, or try again in a few moment
Since it’s labeled as preview, does that mean that prompts will be used by Google to train their models etc or does Cursor demand it to be private?
i cant activate thinking mode in 49.1
We’re using the OAI compatible API for this model integration which doesn’t yet support thinking. We’ll add it as soon as it becomes available
I apologize for the inaccurate information in my previous response. The Gemini 2.5 Preview model now has two modes and allows enabling and disabling thinking. In Cursor, only one mode is currently available, but we will add this support soon.
I’m using an API key from Gemini in Cursor (free plan from Gemini) I’m a Cursor Pro user, however it says the API key is Unauthorized User API key: (Request ID: f979262f-1473-4c3e-8c37-61f335e13c8b). Gemini 2.5 pro does work correctly.
In the regular Vscode app it does work correctly with 2.5 Flash using the same key though.
Getting the exact same issue as you, same API key works fine on cline for the flash model
This model via API is not working in Cursor yet.
How can I use this model on cursor? my Google API key is not working!! Unauthorized User API key

and without the key configuration:
We’re having trouble connecting to the model provider. This might be temporary - please try again in a moment.

I think we’ve fixed it, now this model should work with your API key.
Great, yes works.
