Add Workspace-Specific AI Rule Configuration Feature

Dear cursor development team,

I would like to propose an extension to cursor’s functionality. Currently, instructions and rules for AI are set globally, but we would like to request the addition of a feature that allows these to be customized for each workspace.

As far I understand, no. I’m also looking for workspace-wide rules or at least docs on how rules are applied when you have multiple projects in your workspace each of which with its own .cursor/rules.

Sometimes, I use a workspace with multiple related project directories and I want some rules to apply to all of these directories and some only to a specific directory. It’s not clear if this works / how to do that currently. Could someone from the Cursor team advise/clarify?

This is part of v0.50 rollout. You can now have multiple project directories in a workspace and have for each independent .cursor/rules.
