Agent can’t access Browser Automation tools (navigate/click/screenshot) even though Browser capabilities page lists them and Browser Automation is connected

Describe the Bug

Cursor shows that the Agent has browser capabilities (Navigate/Click/Type/Scroll/Screenshot/Console/Network), and Settings → Tools & MCP shows Browser Automation is connected. However, in Agent chat, the assistant claims it has no browser-control tools available and cannot open sites or take screenshots.

Steps to Reproduce

Enable Settings → Tools & MCP → Browser Automation (mode: Browser Tab).

Open the Browser Tab.

Start an Agent chat and ask: “Open https://cursor.com
in browser and take a screenshot.”

Agent responds that it cannot open websites or take screenshots and says browser-control tools aren’t available (only resource/list type MCP tools).

Expected Behavior

Agent can navigate to a URL and take a screenshot

Facing the same issue. I downgraded on friday to 2.2.44 and it worked until 1h ago. Now this version doesn’t work either. I am right now looking for alternatives to cursor as this stops me from using it. Don’t have time to keep refreshing and copy pasting.

Try this:

Switch Browser mode away from “Browser Tab” → “Google Chrome” (Tools & MCP → Browser Automation).

1. Disable Browser Automation → enable it again.

2. Fully quit Cursor (Cmd+Q, make sure the process is dead), then reopen.

3. In terminal run:

rm -rf ~/.npm/_npx

Then restart Cursor again.

5. Make sure you’re using Agent mode in the main editor

still doesnt work only when i log out from account and try to create rule it creates like this allows you to chose :apply intellegently or other options and creates Rules folder

but when i log in back and try to do it same way it creates skills golder with subfolder and skill.md, i dont understand its confusing.

Hey, thanks for the report. This is a known issue, a regression in versions 2.3.18+. The team is working on a fix.

My browser control just started working again out of nowhere.

Have the same issue, the agent says it cannot control the browser, that a tool named cursor-ide-browser is missing. Please fix this…

Happening to me as well. seemed to be working fine just yesterday. tried re-installing cursor to no avail.
