I have set up the settings so that the chat always starts in “Ask” mode. However, on occasion, especially when quitting and restarting Cursor, the Chat sets itself up in “Agent” mode. I wish to avoid Agents at all costs except for when I ask for it explicitly (way too many tokens consumed and not tracked, and it decreases my coding ability). How can this be fixed?
Steps to Reproduce
Don’t know.
Operating System
MacOS
Current Cursor Version (Menu → About Cursor → Copy)
Hey, you might be using the Cmd + I shortcut to switch to the chat. You can also add a shortcut to trigger Ask mode. To do this, open the Ask mode settings and set the desired key combination.
Thanks. I’ll try a new keyboard shortcut. But FYI, I have the system set for Ask by default and I don’t use cmd-I. I use cmd-L. This situation happens when I quit cursor when the chat freezes, and then start it up again. In my view, it is some kind of error relating to properly saving configuration parameters.
I understand. It seems that Cursor simply can’t remember the default mode. Could you try changing the default mode to Agent, restarting Cursor, then going back into the settings, selecting Ask as the default mode, and starting a new chat?
Hey just adding to the noise on this one so the ticket doesn’t autoclose like others have. Would really like agent mode to at least be a lot clearer rather than a little low contrast toggle in the chat window. If I could disable it entirely that’d be great too.
