Remember Chat Mode (Ask/Agent) for the Existing Chat Records

Where does the bug appear (feature/product)?

Cursor IDE

Describe the Bug

I frequently use “Ask” mode to prevent unintentional code modifications. However, I’ve noticed that when I close and reopen Cursor, my existing chat sessions that were set to “Ask” mode are automatically reverted to “Agent” mode. This has led to a few instances where Cursor modified my files when I wasn’t expecting it to.

I’m aware of the “Default Mode” setting, but it only applies to newly created chats and doesn’t solve this issue for existing ones.

Steps to Reproduce

  1. Create a new chat session.

  2. Manually set the mode for this session to Ask mode.

  3. Have a conversation, then completely close the Cursor application.

  4. Reopen Cursor and navigate back to that same chat session.

Expected Behavior

The chat mode should be remembered and remain as Ask mode, just as I left it. Each chat session should persist its own mode setting independently.
