Where does the bug appear (feature/product)?
Cursor IDE
Describe the Bug
I frequently use “Ask” mode to prevent unintentional code modifications. However, I’ve noticed that when I close and reopen Cursor, my existing chat sessions that were set to “Ask” mode are automatically reverted to “Agent” mode. This has led to a few instances where Cursor modified my files when I wasn’t expecting it to.
I’m aware of the “Default Mode” setting, but it only applies to newly created chats and doesn’t solve this issue for existing ones.
Steps to Reproduce
-
Create a new chat session.
-
Manually set the mode for this session to Ask mode.
-
Have a conversation, then completely close the Cursor application.
-
Reopen Cursor and navigate back to that same chat session.
Expected Behavior
The chat mode should be remembered and remain as Ask mode, just as I left it. Each chat session should persist its own mode setting independently.
