Agent mode model not applying

Where does the bug appear (feature/product)?

Cursor IDE

Describe the Bug

Whenever I switch to Agent mode, it retains the model from the last selected mode rather than switching to the model I set for Agent mode.

I have explained the behaviour in the attached video (with voiceover).

Steps to Reproduce

  1. Edit Agent mode, set it to the model of preference. eg: Model A
  2. Switch to another model, eg: Ask which has its model set to another one. eg: Model B
  3. Now switch back to Agent mode → you will see Model B still selected as the model

Expected Behavior

Switching to Agent mode should enable the dedicated model selected for Agent mode

Does this stop you from using Cursor

No - Cursor works, but with this issue

Hey, thanks for the report. I can confirm this looks like a state management issue: when switching from other modes, Agent mode doesn’t load the configured model correctly.

I’ll pass this to the team. Thanks for the reproduction steps and the video - that will help the team fix it quickly!

Hey Dean, any update on when this will be resolved? Seems like a small issue, but not fixed yet.

I am also getting this. Very annoying. Please fix.

Found another issue.

The “Shift + Tab” keyboard shortcut completely disregards Model switching.

Fix this too.
