Model selection resets to Composer 1 when switching Ask/Agent modes

Where does the bug appear (feature/product)?

Cursor IDE

Describe the Bug

When using a specific model (e.g., Claude 4.5), switching between modes (Ask ↔ Agent) causes the model selection to reset to Composer 1 instead of persisting my choice. Forces manual re-selection every time which sucks.

Steps to Reproduce

Steps to Reproduce:
Open Cursor Chat / Composer.
Select Haiku 4.5
Switch modes (e.g., from “Ask” to “Agent” or vice-versa).
Observe the model dropdown.

Expected Behavior

The selected model (claude-haiku) should persist across mode switches.

Does this stop you from using Cursor

No - Cursor works, but with this issue

Hey, thanks for the report.

This is a known issue with model selection persistence when switching modes. The team is working on a fix.

As a temporary workaround, you can set the default model for each mode separately. In the model selection dropdown, there’s a setting where you can specify the default model for Ask, Agent, and other modes - then each mode will use its preset model. See an example solution here: Choose a model for each mode - #3 by Artemonim

Let me know if this helps.
