Allow me to copy paste text as raw text in the prompt

It’s so annoying when I’m writing a prompt, I copy paste some text but Cursor decides to reference that as a snippet instead of pasting inline in my prompt. It happens all the times, I’m really fed up.

Just add a separate paste command like:

  • CTRL + V for raw text pasting
  • CTRL + SHIFT + V for snippet (file-like reference) pasting

CTRL+Shift+V should already paste without any references, but we have found some settings that may interfere with this. An update should be available soon to ensure this works as intended!

Can make a suggestion that should make the default paste referencing much more intuitive in chat/composer?

When you paste text from the editor, a small indicator (e.g. Lines 34-56) should appear in-line with the text so that you can see ‘where’ you pasted the content in relation to the rest of your prompt.

Right now, it’s unintuitive how you can paste something in the middle of a prompt and nothing actually appears in that spot.
