Hi Cursor Team and Community,
Hope you’re all doing well.
First off, I want say I’m really enjoying using Cursor and find the Pro plan incredibly valuable. The access to models like 4o-mini, claude-3.7-sonnet, gemini-2.5-pro, etc., directly within the IDE is fantastic for my workflow.
I’ve also started exploring the use of custom models (like locally hosted models or specific models via API). However, I’ve noticed that when I enable a custom model in the settings, it seems I can no longer easily select or use the models included in my Pro subscription directly from the model selection dropdown within the chat or edit interfaces.
My current workflow requires me to switch between the powerful Pro models for complex tasks and potentially faster or more specialized custom models for others. Having to go into settings each time to enable/disable custom models adds a bit of friction.
Feature Request:
I would love it if there was a way to have both the built-in Pro models and configured custom models available for selection simultaneously.
Perhaps the custom models could appear alongside the standard Pro models in the dropdown list, maybe designated with a “Custom” tag or grouped in a separate section?
Benefits:
- Flexibility: Seamlessly switch between the best model (Pro or Custom) for the specific task at hand without digging into settings.
- Workflow Efficiency: Reduces the steps needed to leverage different types of models.
- Comparison: Makes it easier to compare outputs from Pro models and custom models side-by-side for the same prompts.
I believe this feature would significantly enhance the user experience for those of us who subscribe to Pro but also want to integrate our own models. It would offer the best of both worlds – the curated power of the Cursor Pro suite and the flexibility of custom model integration.
Curious to hear if others in the community would find this useful, or if the team has perhaps already considered something similar.
Thanks for considering this suggestion and for your continuous hard work on making Cursor such a great tool!
Best regards
