App Not Responding When AI is Generating Output

:lady_beetle: Bug description:
Until about 10 hours ago, Cursor was working perfectly. Suddenly and without any clear reason, every time I make a request or task to the AI Agent, the app freezes and lags badly. While the AI is ā€œthinking and writing,ā€ I cannot use Cursor—it becomes unresponsive and shows ā€œnot respondingā€ if I click anywhere. However, it doesn’t crash. Once the AI finishes the request and returns the result, Cursor starts working normally again.

:counterclockwise_arrows_button: Steps to reproduce:

  1. Open Cursor
  2. Ask anything to the AI Agent
  3. Cursor freezes during the response generation process

:laptop: Operating system and Cursor version:

  • Windows 11 Pro
  • Cursor version: 0.49.6 (user setup)
  • VSCode version: 1.96.2
  • Electron: 34.3.4
  • Node.js: 20.18.3
  • Chromium: 132.0.6834.210
  • i9 processor, 64 GB RAM

:prohibited: Impact:
Yes – This issue makes Cursor nearly unusable while waiting for AI responses.

Hey, it seems the issue is related to an overloaded chat history. Have you tried creating a new chat?

The problem might also be due to a large amount of history in your project. The current solution is to delete part of the history, such as the oldest sessions.

You can also try renaming your project or moving it to a different location on your disk. This will allow you to quickly clear the history for your project.

I have this same problem. Just speculating, but it makes sense its related to chat history. Would be nice if there was some official word on this, I’m not sure how wide spread this issue is but at least some people are having it and it seems related to last update.
