Auto immediately switches back to Composer 2.5 Fast (locked) on Free Plan

Hello, I’m experiencing exactly the same issue.

My environment:

  • Windows 11
  • Free Plan
  • Signed in with ‘Google’
  • First time using Cursor
  • Installed on July 19-20, 2026
  • Never used Cursor before on this or any other computer

My dashboard shows:

  • Included Usage: 51% used (49% remaining)
  • Resets on August 20, 2026

However:

  • Every prompt immediately returns “You’ve hit your usage limit.”
  • The model is permanently locked to Composer 2.5 Fast.
  • Clicking the model only shows “Upgrade to unlock premium models.”
  • No model selection menu appears.

I have already tried:

  • Reinstalling Cursor
  • Removing AppData settings
  • Restarting Windows
  • Creating a new workspace
  • Using Ask mode instead of Agent
  • Changing model settings
  • Using a different network
  • Updating to the latest version (v3.12.17)

None of these steps resolved the issue.

Since my dashboard still shows remaining Included Usage, it seems that my account quota and the IDE usage enforcement are out of sync.

Could someone from the Cursor team please check my account or let me know if it is affected by the same known issue?

I’ve attached screenshots showing both the remaining Included Usage and the error message for reference.

If needed, I’m happy to provide my account email or any additional information via DM.
