I’d like to suggest a small usability enhancement when using the Auto model: after a request is completed using Auto, display which underlying model was actually used (for example “Auto → GPT-4.1” or “Auto → Claude 3.5”).
Here’s why this matters to me:
- Auto is great because it doesn’t count towards my usage
- At the same time, I’m actively evaluating how different models perform for various tasks. If I don’t know which model the Auto route used, I lose feedback on how each model is doing for my requests.
- Knowing the model used gives me more confidence in the result (or in whether I should switch to a specific model next time).
This is a lightweight change: you already choose the model behind the scenes, so just exposing the name (perhaps in the UI or as part of the response metadata) should work.
