There are a lot of stupid cheap models with good tool calling around now - sonic/grok-code, gpt-4.1… even gpt-5.

But those need a good plan (gemini pro, sonnet, opus..). Waiting for a planning step, and handing it over is slow and annoying.

Would love to config 2 models for “super plan mode”, and let them quickly crash out well planned code.

Yes, having explicit orchestration in Cursor would be great to see. I had the chance to try this feature in another product, where the AI could automatically switch between roles (each driven by different prompts) and carry out the required tasks.

That setup significantly improved both the results and the overall user experience — bringing it close to what Cursor already offers.
