I also would like to see reponse from the devs.
To me it does not make sense to keep it this way since gpt4o mini its way faster, cheaper and way more inteligent.

Can we get some clearance on this ?
We should have access to 4o mini as a model anyways. It’ll cut down on alot of overall usage.
Maybe I’m misunderstanding you, but 4o mini is already available. Just toggle it on or add it in cursor settings.
