Can't install MCP servers with deeplinks on Debian

Describe the Bug

on my debian 12 system, trying to get deeplinks to work to easily install MCP servers; Followed this guidance https://claude.ai/share/c1a66c8a-7ebc-4fbd-9dd0-788123a5a46b trying to get deeplinks working; when I click any of the deeplinks to install an MCP server, instead it creates a new text file with the filename consisting of the URL from the deeplink.

Steps to Reproduce

Install Cursor on Debian 12 and try clicking a deeplink like cursor://anysphere.cursor-deeplink/mcp/install?name=Playwright&config=eyJjb21tYW5kIjoibnB4IEBwbGF5d3JpZ2h0L21jcEBsYXRlc3QifQ%3D%3D

Expected Behavior

Should install the MCP server

The installation way for the linux (using appimage) is very problematic, and it’s causing this problem as well (no URL handler from cursor side)

Is it on the roadmap to improve linux installation experience?
