Describe the Bug

New chat always throw “Chat history too long. Please start a new chat or shorten your message” even open a new clear chat

Steps to Reproduce

  • open cursor
  • open chat
  • input anything

Expected Behavior

cursor should give me feedback

Thank you for your bug report. Please add the info which model you are using.

Such an issue usually happens when one or more of following cases occur:

  • Too many MCP tools installed
  • Too many or too long Cursor Rules, Project Rules, User Rules or Memories
  • Too long files attached.

To exclude other potential causes could you check, if:

  • An API key is configured and used?
