Chat not working on Remote SSH with folder opened

Where does the bug appear (feature/product)?

Cursor IDE

Describe the Bug

I use the Remote SSH extension to connect to an EC2 instance. I have been having issues using the Chat in this mode after opening a folder.

Interestingly, if I connect to the remote and don’t have a folder opened yet, the chat seems to respond.

When I open a folder, I send a message in the chat, but then the send button changes to a stop button but no loading icon is created and the message box is cleared.

Interestingly it seems to be a problem with some folders and not others?

Steps to Reproduce

Connect to a remote instance, open a folder (/home/ubuntu/), ask the chat agent a question.

Expected Behavior

The chat works as expected and produces a response.

Does this stop you from using Cursor

No - Cursor works, but with this issue

Any update on this? This is preventing me from using Cursor on remote instances

Hi @NoopDawg, could you try doing s clean installation of Cursor? Please see the instructions here: Unable to install Python extension in the marketplace - #37 by ravirahman

This will wipe all settings and state, so I’d recommend backing things up first.

I have encountered the same problem here, and the issue persists in Cursor v1.5.9. Hope the Cursor team will solve the problem ASAP. By the way, I have tried the above-mentioned solutions by ravirahman, and I solved the issue by installing the VS Code downloaded VSIX package.

I have had some luck going into subfolders, I wonder if this is an issue with the size of some of the folders on remote?

@NoopDawg does this still occur with 1.6. thats rolling out now?
