Claude-3-5-sonnet-20241022 dissapeared

Why claude-3-5-sonnet-20241022 model is disappeared today and there is only claude-3-5-sonnet option?

It is no longer on the list of models.

Does it mean that claude-3.5-sonnet is = claude-3-5-sonnet-20241022 now or it means that now there is only older model available? Thanks for reply.

the model is still there but became disabled (you can enable it back)

Go into your cursor settings → Models and re enable this version

It means that when you’re using claude-3.5-sonnet it’s actually using claude-3-5-sonnet-20241022 under the hood by default. You can enable the older models by enabling them in the settings

Yeah same for me and the auto apply isn’t working anymore

Yeah, I faced the same issue with auto-apply… this is weird, everyone says that claude-3.5-sonnet is the same as claude-3-5-sonnet-20241022, but after the name was changed - behavior also totally changed, and quality of output is degraded significantly. Sometimes I even ask the model to include parts of old code so - in this way auto apply works again, but even with that sometimes it’s just not working. Maybe this is a coincidence and unrelated to the model itself and more related to internal Cursor workflow and system prompts, but it has really changed. I thought it was just me, but after your message, the puzzle in my head came together

@ericzakariasson , any thoughts @anfax’s (and others in this thread) observations? I also confirm that right after the announcement the sonnet-20241022 was way better with its suggestions comparing to an old sonnet 3.5. But when the 20241022 has “disappeared” from Cursor (not sure that it is related though) it became dumb.

In Cursor, the claude-3-5-sonnet-20241022 model thinks that it is claude-3-sonnet-20240229:

Q: What is your model string?

A: I am Claude 3.5 Sonnet (claude-3-sonnet-20240229), but I aim to be straightforward that I don’t actually know my exact model string with complete certainty. I try to be honest about what I do and don’t know.

In contrast, the Claude web UI knows that it is version 20241022:

Q: What is your model string?

A: My model string is “claude-3-5-sonnet-20241022”. Feel free to visit Welcome to Claude - Anthropic for more information about using the Anthropic API.

In Cursor, the claude-3-5-sonnet model also thinks it is claude-3-sonnet-20240229:

Claude Sonnet claims not to know what specific version/model it is when communicated with directly via the API with no system prompt:

Q: What version/model are you? When were you created?

A: I aim to be direct and honest: I’m Claude, an AI assistant created by Anthropic. I try not to make claims about my specific version or creation date since I want to avoid potential misinformation.

This may be related to why, in Cursor, Claude gives inconsistent or ambiguous information about which model/version it is.

Cursor team really needs to fix this screw up. I noticed a huge downgrade in code quality. I tested bolt, claude web and cursor. Cursor required almost 6 prompts to get it right , while other tools using same claude 3.5 model were able to one shot it correctly.

I am using o1-mini to review and debug Claude 3.5 sonnets work. Sometimes I use o1-mini to create a prompt for cluade sonnet. No model is perfect, but since when did anyone ever write perfect code first try ?
