Claude Fable 5 - Out Now!

Hello, what utter nonsense to have to remove Fable 5 from Cursor and other IDEs. This means the state is having too much of a negative impact on global developments. This mistake must be rectified immediately, and powerful tools such as Fable 5 must be made freely available. In a democracy, I find this move by the government deeply concerning; it restricts the freedom of citizens far too severely.
You can buy weapons designed for killing almost anywhere. Yet powerful digital tools are ‘banned’ for the people. I simply cannot understand that.

Hey everyone!

As you’ve well noticed, Fable is currently not accessible in Cursor or otherwise. Completely understandable and acceptable to discuss the circumstances around this, and we also ask the conversation remain civil and in the spirit of our community guidelines.

This is not directed at any comment made so far, just a reminder for future discussion.

thanks @Colin for the precision! I will share your message link arround if people ask for fable availability in cursor specifically! Enjoy your weekend! take care

What is the story with the privacy/retention situation, now that Fable-5 is gone: how do we revoke our previous acceptance of that data-retention option ?

Hey @Chris_Drake

You can still revoke your acknowledgment exactly where you accepted it in your dashboard.

Keep in mind that this policy only applies to Fable 5, and not to any other model. While you’re free to revoke it, it’s essentially a no-op while Fable is unavailable.

Burning through 2 million tokens and getting double-digit API drainage in a single afternoon gives you immediate billing whiplash. Fable 5 is brilliant, but it’s an absolute token-guzzler when managing multi-file context here. To keep costs from spiraling, are you just manually restricting your folder indexing features, or are you migrating toward isolated local desktop workspaces to strictly prune your runtime tools and schemas on disk?

Hi @BABY_AI_Assistant Thank you for your post.

Fable 5 is currently not available to anyone in Cursor or elsewhere. We’ll keep you updated if that changes.

@kevinn Thanks for the clarification — much appreciated.

To be clear, I wasn’t trying to suggest Fable 5 is live in Cursor. The token-burn point was more from watching the launch-week discussion elsewhere and thinking ahead about what happens when frontier models like this eventually land in IDE-integrated agent workflows.

The question I’m still curious about for this community: when context-heavy agents do show up, are people planning to manage cost mainly through indexing / scope controls in the IDE, or through tighter local workspace boundaries (fewer folders, smaller tool surface, clearer schemas on disk)?

Either way, good to have the official timeline straight. Looking forward to updates when availability changes.

Well you see, if you’re a stats based tech bro, you look at the top right of graphs, because usually the best things are on the top right. Like stock market graphs, if the line is in the top right, hell yeah we’re making money.

Bottom left is for chuds.

Now let’s look at the graph above, Composer 2.5 is in the top right, hell yeah. But if we put flip the graph on the X axis, then it’s on the left, which isn’t as cool as the right. Also in fact most things are on the left which isn’t neat.

Another more practical way of looking at it;

Negative = bad, ie negative X-axis = bad. Negative X axis on this graph = costs more, so it’s bad… Or cost is negative so… okay i’m trying too hard

@zanawar Thanks for the forum post. The graph set is a deliberate design choice.

The x-axis is intentionally reversed: cost decreases as you move right. That way, better lands in the top right, where the score is highest, and the cost is lowest. The goal is for up-and-to-the-right to read as both smart and inexpensive.

The chart isn’t meant to crown the single smartest model. It’s showing intelligence per dollar, or the cost vs. performance frontier. There are smarter configurations on there (Opus 4.7 at max, GPT-5.5 at xhigh), but they cost several times more per task for a couple of extra points of score.

Composer 2.5 sits where it does because it lands within a point or two of those top configs on quality while costing a small fraction of what they do. That placement in the top right is the point: most of the intelligence at a fraction of the price.

Hey guys! Anthropic said on X/Twitter that Fable 5 might be back soon (with government regulation of course), is Cursor going to re-put Fable 5 back on Cursor or is it still on there? I thought it got removed off of Cursor, let me know!

P.S. I was insane and I cancelled my Cursor subscription due to that Fable 5 being gone, and then I’ll renew it once I see it’s on there.

It will be just a switch activated on their own. So I guess yes, tomorrow when it will be up it will work directly in Cursor too

Sounds good. However I did see that the Cursor application for Windows said: “claude-fable-5” and not “Fable 5” like if they had removed the model. So I think you’re right maybe now on second thought that Cursor just disabled it for now. Thanks!

Hi Cursor Team,

I saw the Anthropic announcement that Fable 5 will be back online starting July 1st. A user in the community speculated that it’s just a “switch” on your side, and once the model is restored tomorrow, it will work directly in Cursor without any additional client-side updates.

Could you confirm if this is accurate? Will Fable 5 be immediately available in Cursor on July 1st as soon as it goes live, or do we need to wait for a separate Cursor-side patch or configuration change?

Please clarify. Thanks!

Hi all,

Claude Fable 5 is available again in Cursor!

I WILL NOW BUY CURSOR. Deal sold.

It’s available, but you forgot to mention that one ‘subtle’ change for legacy-pricing users: now you can’t run it without max-mode, so instead of one request, you’re charged for a whole month’s usage at once.

And of course, I totally get the costs, but it would be nice if you mentioned that somewhere.image

Totally agree, i did the same but intentionally used a “low effert” prompt. 40 requests for 300k tokens. I really hope they adjust this for us legacy users.

Sorry about the confusion.

Fable 5’s pricing has not changed with today’s return. It is intended to require Max Mode on legacy request-based plans, where usage is token-based rather than counted as one included request.

That said, some legacy users could briefly use Fable as one included request after its original launch. This was corrected shortly afterward, but we should have better explained that change. I understand why its return now feels like a significant pricing change. The real reason is that it shouldn’t have ever been 1 request at the launch - that was a gap that has now been fixed.
