Commit Message Generation Custom Prompt

Hi,

I really enjoy the Git commit message generation feature, but I find that it uses the words “enhance”, “refactor”, and “implement” a bit too much. Could we please edit the prompt for this feature? It would be really helpful to have it focus on specific aspects about the code when I click the sparkle button

Thanks!

I added Conventional Message Specs to the custom cursor rules. and to the docs.

We already have this down as a possible feature to add in a future version, as you are not the first to request this, but thanks for the suggestion anyway!

Any updates on this? VScode allows you to customize this and its honestly the only reason I haven’t fully switched over yet, the cursor commit generated messages are AI slop at best and I would really like to be able to customize the prompt used to generate them

I’m gonna bump this up as well, I really don’t know why this is such a deprioritized item considering all we need is some way to customize the prompt used for generating messages. Pretty please ship this soon?

Aside: it’d be rad if Cursor could really amp up the commit authoring experience as well. This feels like a lift-and-shift for the most part from VSCode and it sucks just as much. IDK why we’re limited to such a tiny window in the sidebar as a default when it could be much better. I’m aware the “git commit” option is there in command menu which opens a proper editor tab but even this feels quite ■■■■■■■
