Confidentiality Of Shared Code With Cursor AI Pro

Dear Sir/Madam,

I am planning to use Cursor AI for my work-related projects and am considering the Pro subscription. However, I need to ensure that the codebase of my organization, which I will share while using Cursor AI, remains completely private and secure.

Specifically, I need to confirm:

  1. Is the code I share only accessible to me and the AI during my interactions, and not visible to anyone in the Cursor AI community or any external parties?
  2. Is the shared codebase kept strictly confidential and used only for the purpose of assisting me as a digital copilot?
  3. What measures are in place to ensure data protection, privacy, and security for sensitive organizational code?

Data protection and confidentiality are of utmost importance to me, and I need assurance that my organization’s codebase will remain entirely private and secure while using Cursor AI.

I would appreciate a detailed response outlining how Cursor AI handles these concerns, especially for Pro users.

Thanks and Best Regards,
Sritam Paltasingh.

Hi Sritam,

Thanks for your question regarding code confidentiality!

Cursor has a ‘privacy mode’ which is enabled by default for business users but can be manually enabled for Pro users too. Most of our enterprise users have this enabled, so I will answer these questions as though you have it enabled too.

To answer your questions (assuming privacy mode is enabled):

  1. With privacy mode enabled, no-one at Cursor or any 3rd party can see your code. When you make an AI request, the code is stored and used only to execute your query, and is then deleted from our servers.
  2. Cursor does not share or store your codebase on its servers. While we do ‘index’ your code, this does not involve us storing your code specifically, but just provides the AI with some assistance when choosing which files to look at. Until you make a query, no code ever leaves your machine.
  3. We have SOC II compliance, which is a top standard for data security and compliance, as well as detail information about data privacy and security on our website, which should tell you all you need to know about how we handle your data:
