Confused about Cursor's pricing model - Why is Claude-4-Sonnet-Thinking so expensive?

Hi Cursor team/community,

I’m a bit confused about how the billing works for Claude-4-Sonnet-Thinking model usage. Recently, I noticed my credits were deducted significantly faster than expected when having conversations using this model, even though:

  1. My conversations were primarily text-based (no file uploads or complex coding tasks).
  2. Session lengths were average (~5-10 messages per conversation).

I think the tokens generated during the thinking process are also being charged. This is the same as using the API from Anthropic. I could be wrong.

I emailed the cursor team to cancel my account and then had to go away for work and came back in June and have just seen my account has been charged US$200 every month even though i havent used it since Feb. I reached out and asked for a refund and got no response. It was great when I first used it but I am not happy with the way my account was not cancelled when requested. The only way I seemed to stop they paymnets was finaly i had to cancel my credit card and report a fraudulent use from Cursor. Not happy Cursor!!

Today when I used Cursor and opened the billing page, I noticed the billing has returned to normal. The incurred charges have been waived (as it currently appears - the bill shows an amount of $0).
