Describe the Bug

Hi,

the convex plugin is essential for me, but currently unusable in cursor due to it’s rules that all will be loaded into the agent’s runtime context. (Saw it in the local agent context overview)

In Codex the same plugin works fine and just loads files on demand.

Convex said they won’t fix it in the next time. Can you do something about that?

Does this stop you from using Cursor?

Hey, thanks for the report. There are two things here.

What you’re seeing isn’t a bug in the mechanism itself. Rules that the plugin marks as alwaysApply: true are designed to be included in context on every turn. Skills are loaded on demand. The real issue is that the Convex plugin version in our marketplace is behind upstream. In the current plugin release (get-convex/convex-agent-plugins, v1.10.0), rules have already been switched to on-demand loading, but the marketplace is serving an older snapshot where all rules are marked alwaysApply: true. That’s why your context gets overloaded.

Workaround for now is to install the latest version directly from GitHub and skip the marketplace:

/add-plugin https://github.com/get-convex/convex-agent-plugins

This should pull the current release without the wall of rules. If it doesn’t pick up the latest version for some reason, let me know and we’ll take a closer look.

Note: plugin rules don’t currently have a per-rule toggle. It’s all on or all off at the plugin level.

I’ll post here once the marketplace version is updated.
