Critical issue: Unable to use Cursor – prompts never complete (macOS, all models)

:lady_beetle: Bug description:

Cursor gets stuck on “Generating…” for 20 minutes or more, and then fails with an error. This happens with any model, including Claude (all versions), OpenAI, and others. The issue has persisted across both stable and beta versions, including the latest 0.47.8 (Universal).

:counterclockwise_arrows_button: How to reproduce the bug:

  1. Open Cursor and prompt any model (Claude, GPT-4, etc.).

  2. Wait for generation.

  3. The editor stays stuck on “Generating…” for a long time (20+ minutes).

  4. Eventually, it fails with an error.

:paperclip: I’ve attached a screen recording that shows the issue happening in real-time.

:laptop: System info:

Operating System: macOS

Cursor Version: 0.48.1 (Universal)

Also tested on: Stable version (same behavior)

:prohibited: Impact:

Yes, this issue prevents me from using Cursor entirely. As a paying user, I’m also being charged for prompts that don’t work, which adds to the frustration.

same here

Can you check with Developer Tools? i think that those are not going even to cursor servers. At least for me in those cases where it said “Generating” and never returned wasnt charged at all as it never reached the servers.

For me helped starting new chat or restarting Cursor. Now also on 0.48.1 it didnt happen agian.

Well, i updated to Versión: 0.48.2 and still with same problem. And if i start a new chat, it get stucked with 2 or 3 prompts.

same issue with mine here. it is still generating without output. dont know how long should wait it.
