Cursor CLI gets stuck w/gpt-5

Describe the Bug

Any prompt with gpt-5 is not responding, stuck on “Generating”

Steps to Reproduce

I was not able to consistently produce this issue, but it happens at some freqency. Using --debug also doesn’t seem to produce any information that could be used to pinpoint the issue.

Expected Behavior

Better clarity on the current generating status, or shorter timeout window for no response from the gpt model.

Operating System

Linux

Current Cursor Version (Menu → About Cursor → Copy)

Hey, OpenAI had a few incidents, possibly at the time you were trying to use this model. I just checked, and everything is working fine for me.

The same thing is happening to me right now. the generation stops, Cursor still shows it’s generating, and it doesn’t move to the next step.

Hey, does creating a new chat resolve the issue?

yes, once it gets stuck the only way to resolve it is to /quit and start a fresh chat. even control+c does not stop the generation.
